Letter to the Editor: Thank you Mt. Blue Rec Cheering, coaches

I really appreciate what you all have done for Val over the many years she has already cheered and for the years to come. The program has devoted so much time and effort into making our cheering teams the success they truly are today. Thank you for teaching the cheerleaders sportsmanship, pride, self-esteem and so many other values they need in life.

Being a parent, I know we don’t always understand the hard work and decision coaches have to make. I even know there are times coaches and parents don’t see eye to eye. But what parents have to remember is the sport is about the cheerleaders, the team as a whole and safety.

Holly, you spend so much time day in and day out trying to make this program a success and I think sometimes parents forget that. I appreciate you very much and am grateful for the program you and the committee have built. You and Jen are always at practices and trying to arrange things. Thank you both!

To the committee, your work does not go unnoticed either. I know there are meetings and there is paperwork and without all of you, it wouldn’t be a success either, so thank you.

To Val’s coaches: You are wonderful. Over the years she has had several coaches as she has grown and moved around from team to team. I am blessed with the work each of you have done with Val and the values you have helped her with. She took a year off from cheering a couple years ago and I stood beside her decision. But she came back to the sport she loves and has given it her all with more spirit.

So again, I thank you all for your time, dedication and support.

  1. As a cheering coach in the program, I appreciate your kind words. Its parents like you and cheerleaders like your daughter that make the volunteer work we do worth-while! Thank you!

  2. Jennie....Thank you so much for your acknowledgment and your families dedication. Your kind words are heartwarming! See you tonight at Kemp Field for YOUTH NIGHT. Mt Blue HS against the Mt Desert Island Trojans......Go Cougars!

  3. Thank you so much Jennie.... your kind words are appreciated. It's great to hear the positive side. The bigger picture is always in our minds and we care about every athlete we have.

  4. The coordination between coaches, the board, and the parents/cheerleaders is a great undertaking. Paperwork and decisions are sometimes difficult and time-consuming. Not everyone sees behind-the-scene work done to provide the community the cheerleading program. Parents complain about fees, etc., but do not understand what the fees include. The program does not make a profit, but it is always assumed the money is going 'somewhere'. The coaches are not in a paid position; they volunteer their time. Our community is fortunate to have this program and the coaches and board should be appreciated as they are offering our children a great sports experience.

  5. Mt. Blue cheering is a wonderful program! If it were not for Holly and cheering, i never would have stayed out of trouble and kept my grades up in high school! thank you for your years of dedication and for providing a positive and rewarding athletic program for our community!

  6. I LOVE THIS PROGRAM AND I LOVE THE COACHES. NO ONE EVER AGREES WITH EVERYONE SO ITS A SIT BACK AND LET OUR COACHES DO WHAT THEY KNOW BEST (AT LEAST THATS WHAT MY MOM TELL ME).

I love my coach and I know she pushes me because she knows what I can do, even when I dont want to do it. Last year she gave me the chance to fly again and I thank her for that because I loved it. She also have me a chance to tumble and I did it! Thanks! Yes, I know, this year I am too tall to fly so we will wait for middle school and see.

I may not be the best and I may not be perfect but I am me and I can cheer.

Thank you for having a great program. Thanks mom and dad for supporting me.
