The Literacy Volunteers of Franklin and Somerset Counties raised more than $3,000.

Literacy Volunteers would like to once again thank our community for being so supportive to our organization, making our annual book sale a huge success!

The Elk’s Lodge in Farmington gave us the use of their large meeting room, CJ’s Appliance loaned us their truck and driver to move the books, Coca Cola produced our banners and the town hall allowed us the use of their board. The Mt Blue High School Jobs for Maine Graduates showed up in force to help sort books and put them out on the tables and of course all the other community volunteers that help set up and clean up. All together there was over 280 volunteer hours put into making this a success.

More than 10,000 books were collected sorted and put out by category. Our community showed up to buy over 4,200 books and lots of the baked goods that had been donated. All together $3,178 was taken in to be used for supporting Literacy Volunteer programs such as our traveling library that supplies free books to food banks and homeless shelters and our tutoring programs.

We look forward to continuing to providing literacy opportunities in our communities.

  1. This should be done at local schools. The book sales they have at school benefit no one except book company. This is a much better idea.
