Letter to the Editor: This is Telecommunications Week

1 min read

We are writing to recognize the vital role our dispatchers play in providing emergency services to our communities.

Dispatchers are the front line to many unfortunate situations and often have a direct influence on the end result. Whether they pick up the phone to answer a question about a parade route, initiate responders to a fire or robbery, or help a bystander administer aid to a loved one suffering a heart attack. Dispatchers must be mentally prepared and instantly adaptable to help after hearing the first few words of someone’s conversation.

It has never been more apparent that 9-1-1 dispatchers are a critical part of our public safety team. Emergency personnel rely on dispatch to provide crucial, accurate information at a moment’s notice. The public trusts dispatchers to send the appropriate resources to resolve their crisis. Without the dispatcher’s dedication, to their work and their commitment, to helping our citizens, emergency responders across the county would be crippled.

As the first person notified of every crime, fire, or medical emergency in Franklin County, our 9-1-1 dispatchers are an invaluable member of our team.

Members of the Franklin County Dispatch Advisory Board ask you to join us as we thank them for their devotion to our area departments and their commitment to the citizens of greater Franklin County.

Sincerely,
Franklin County Dispatch Advisory Board
