Letter to the Editor: Two letters in support of Ed David for District 113

4 mins read

Ed David is my choice for the Maine State House of Representatives. Ed is committed to full funding for education and has received the endorsement of the Maine Education Association. It is time to elect someone who truly cares about the children of Maine and will make them a priority. Ed is that person. He believes that education is the key to growing economic opportunity for Maine families and that those families deserve leaders who will invest in education.

Maine needs leaders who are willing to sit down , discuss their differences, and work together to solve problems. Ed David will work across the aisle to create common sense solutions to move Maine forward.

Ed David has the intelligence and common sense to represent us . He will make decisions that will benefit all of the people of Maine. His ability to listen and to analyze independently makes me confident that he is the best choice to represent our communities.

My wife and I are retired college teachers strongly supporting Ed David for our state representative in this election.

The shuttered businesses and levels of unemployment and underemployment tell us we have problems that aren’t getting fixed. The penny-wise but pound-foolish policies in Augusta have been no solution. Our property tax assessments over the last two years show how the slashing of education support and local aid in Augusta merely dumps the burden of maintaining quality education, health. and infrastructure inequitably onto less wealthy communities like Farmington. And Governor LePage’s mind-bending rejection of federal medicaid support to spread health insurance to financially strapped citizens and families burdens our state economy while nearby states take advantage to better manage health risk for their citizens. This isn’t efficiency, it is abdication.

At this critical time we really need representatives with the experience to get us back on track investing for the long term. We are very lucky to have in Ed David the candidate we need. After a long and successful career as a lawyer and community citizen, he has retired from his legal practice in family law to commit his full time and energy to defending the Farmington area’s long term interests as a legislator. As a Farmington citizen, lawyer and mediator, he has had deep experience in many of the issues that so desperately need attention: in health care; in educational and family policy; in broad-based regional development integrating employment, energy policy, tourism, and educational opportunity in technology and the arts; and in clean politics. He has been for years involved in planning with major local institutions to more effectively serve this community and state: Franklin Health, Mt. Blue High School and Foster Tech, The University of Maine Farmington, the Greater Franklin County Development Corporation, Old South Congregational Church, and the Franklin County Court system. His endorsement by the local branch of the Maine Education Association testifies to his commitment to reestablishing adequate state funding for schools as well as health and economic development.

We are very lucky to have person of Ed David’s values, energy, experience and temperament offering to serve at this critical time, and we encourage voters to read his printed flyer, check his Facebook page (Ed David for Maine House), and vote on November 4.
