Carrabassett Valley Pool Party fundraiser July 14

CARRABASSETT VALLEY - The Town of Carrabassett Valley has a new project in the works. The New Pool Committee has announced a fundraising pool party from 4-7 p.m. on Saturday, July 14 to help bring awareness and raise funds for the replacement of the current town pool.

The event will be held at the Carrabassett Valley Town Park/Pool, 1001 Carriage Road where a live and silent auction will be held. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. (Rain date: Sunday, July 15, 2012 4-7pm)

The current pool is rated as an oversized backyard pool and is outdated. It is too small for the use it receives and staff cannot offer a full American Red Cross Learn to Swim program (no diving ). The projected replacement pool is to be 25 yards long with updated features and compliant with state and national safety codes.

The pool offers swim lessons (private and group), water exercise classes, lap swimming, open swim time and works with the Outdoor Adventure Camp to provide swim lessons for their program. With a larger pool the staff would be able to offer more than one activity at a time and be able to expand the existing programs and create new ones.

The committee is hopeful there will be lot of supporters at this event as there are great auction items from local business gift certificates, jewelry, surf lessons, guided fishing trips, swim lessons, homemade goods, 1 week at the Outdoor Adventure Camp, guided bike ride plus many other great trips, goods and services. Cash donations are also accepted.
