OQUOSSOC – On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Saturday Summer Series at the Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum in Oquossoc continues with well-known fly tier Edward “Muzzy” Muzeroll and “Tales from Toothaker” author Peggy Herbert both slated to appear from 11-3 p.m.

Muzeroll has been tying flies for over 30 years and Classic Atlantic Salmon flies for 20. He began his career tying flies for trout and progressed to tying classic hair-wing salmon flies used for catching Atlantic salmon.

“I really don’t remember what drove me to Classics, but I think it was when I started getting the Atlantic Salmon Journal. I was intrigued by all the articles and photos of beautiful full-dressed salmon flies. These flies are widely collected not only for fishing but also as fine art pieces,” Muzeroll said.

“Muzzy” is often booked as a featured tier at the larger fly fishing shows up and down the east coast and is regarded as an elite tier. “I enjoy teaching classes on tying the Classics and sharing what I have learned. I am looking forward to spending time with visitors at the museum next Saturday,” he added.

Author Peggy Herbert has written two books about her experiences on Toothaker Island in Mooselookmeguntic Lake. Her first work “Tales from Toothaker” debuted in 2011 and following on the heels of that initial success “Surrounded by Stories…More Tales from Toothaker” was released last year.

“The books are about how my family and I used humor, hard work, and hand-me-downs to create our island home,” said Herbert.

The Outdoor Sporting Heritage Museum is located at the corner of Routes 4 & 17 in Oquossoc. For more information, call 864-3091.
