Franklin County Extension Association presents annual 4-H Award to New Sharon member

NEW SHARON – The Franklin County Extension Association is very pleased to announce that Janna Winslow has been chosen to receive the Franklin County 4-H Annual Award.

The Award is given to a 4-H member who has demonstrated the character and life skills that 4-H promotes, and who will pursue further education after high school. Winslow, who lives in New Sharon, has been a member of the Happy H’s 4-H Club for 14 years. She has completed her first year at the University of Maine at Augusta, where she studies Business Administration.

“I have always tried to do my best,” Winslow said, “but it’s even better when it benefits others around me.”

From singing in local nursing homes to donating hand-made crafts to those in need, Winslow has used her talents to warm the hearts of others. She credits 4-H with helping to overcome her shyness, so that she now regularly gets lead roles in local plays. Winslow’s 4-H projects have required that she track expenses; this experience has helped to launch her into the field of Business Administration. She has plans to utilize her education after college by starting a local business. Winslow is living the 4-H motto: “To make the best better.”

In addition to numerous 4-H projects and events, Winslow has been very active in Mt. Blue High School Chamber Singers, in High School Chorus and in Middle and High School Orchestra. She has received several scholarships at Mt. Blue. Winslow is a member of New Hope Baptist Church Youth Group, Teen Choir and the Church Orchestra. She has participated in several plays at New Hope Baptist Church. Janna participates in Friends of the New Sharon Library.

The Franklin County Extension Association supports the work of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Franklin County. 4-H is one of the Association’s important programs, providing hands-on background in agriculture, community service, science and technology. The Association gives an annual 4-H Award each spring. While a portion of the Award will be taken from operating expense, the Association seeks donations in any amount from community members and businesses to enrich its Award Fund.
