Michael J. Rowe Memorial Ice Fishing Derby is Feb. 13

WILTON – The Wilton Fish & Game will be holding their 2nd Annual Michael J. Rowe Memorial Ice Fishing Derby on Wilson Lake on Maine Free Fishing Day, Feb. 13.

Presale tickets may be purchased at Shelley’s Hometown Mkt., East Wilton, and at Wilton Hardware in Wilton. The first 50 registered youth will receive a surprise grab bag. Pick them up at the registration shack and remember to bring your registration ticket. All registered youth will receive a surprise.

Tickets may also be purchased on derby day at the Wilton Boat Launch starting at 6 a.m. Final weigh in will be at 4 p.m. Registration is $5. A free Family Fishing Clinic will be offered from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. at the boat launch. No experience required, bait and equipment provided. A snowshoe event will begin at 10 a.m. at the boat launch (weather permitting).

The heaviest cold water fish in the adult category receives an Eskimo Quick Fish 2 Shelter. Great prizes for the remaining adult categories. In the youth category, the heaviest fish receives a Wooden Commemorative Box of Max Traps given in memory of Michael J. Rowe. This year there will also be a surprise item for the smallest fish in the youth category. Great items for remaining youth categories.

In addition to the Derby prizes, we will be raffling off a set of pink ice fishing traps donated by Greg Nemi with all proceeds going towards a scholarship to a graduating senior in the Mt Blue Forster Forestry Program in memory of Michael J. Rowe. There will be multiple door prizes.

A warming fire will be provided. Lunch will be available by the WF&G Youth Competition League as their fundraiser. For more information call Alan at 207-778-2450.

  1. Wilton Lions club has placed barrels at each end on the lake for returnable cans & bottles proceeds go to Wilton food bank,and winter special olympics. ( please do not liter) Thank you!
