CARRABASSETT VALLEY – This year’s Sugarloaf Charity Summit kicks off with the Climb for a Cure on Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 5 p.m. For a suggested donation of just $5, participants hike about one mile up Sugarloaf Mountain to Bullwinkle’s restaurant before descending back down. All proceeds from Charity Summit events benefit the Maine Cancer Foundation and the Martha B. Webber Breast Care Center.
Participants sign up at Guest Services in the Base Lodge the day of the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and meet at the SuperQuad at 5 p.m. to snowshoe or skin up Tote Road to Bullwinkle’s, where participants will gather as a group and enjoy delicious treats.
According to organizers, those taking part in the kickoff event should bring a headlamp or flashlight and carry their own water.
The Sugarloaf Charity Summit, which will include the Sugarloaf Charity Ball and live auction on Jan. 28, raised more than $200,000 last year. Now in its 17th year, Summit organizers hope that after this season’s events the collective total will exceed $2.4 million.
