AUGUSTA – Hunting, fishing and trapping are an important part of the heritage of the State of Maine. In an effort to bring forth and recognize individuals who have been dedicated to the wide use and stewardship of our resources, the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife has selected two recipients for a Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Award.

Earlier this summer, over 100 nominations were received for individuals who have hunted, trapped and fished for a combined total of 40 years and who have been an integral part of passing on Maine’s outdoor traditions.

“I am heartened by the sheer number of nominations,” said Commissioner Chandler Woodcock. “While some may state that Maine’s outdoor traditions of hunting, fishing and trapping are outdated and dying, it is quite clear by those nominated that Maine’s outdoor traditions are alive and well. These traditions are now being passed to a new generation of sportsmen and women, who represent tomorrow’s hopes and dreams.”

Additional information about the recipients of the 2015 Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Award will be shared once the recipients are honored in Augusta by Commissioner Chandler Woodcock at the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine Banquet on Sept. 12.
