Wilton Fish & Game Jr. competition rifle team celebrates success

WILTON – The Wilton Fish & Game Association Jr. Rifle Team met at the club house to enjoy good food, good memories and great accomplishments for their winter/spring awards banquet.

This year the 16 shooting members participating in the program met with great success in their sport. During the 5-week postal season, the three position team “The Rimfires” finished second overall in division 1 in the state. The three position team “The Firing Pins” finished first overall in division 2 in the state. The prone only team “The Single Shots” took fifth overall in their division.

Some highlights of the postals are:

The Rimfires: Jared Roy finished with top shot for his team, a gold medal, and is high scoring junior in the state. Connor Maurais finished with a silver and high scoring intermediate junior in the state. Bailey Morrell finished with a bronze. Lindzee Ridley finished fourth, and Connor Rouliard finished with rookie of the year.

The Firing Pins: Alex Morrell finished with top shot for his team and received a gold medal. Curtis Farmer finished with silver. Dakota Bailey finished with a bronze. Mitchell Adams finished fourth, and Jacob Hatch finished rookie of the year.

The Single Shots: Benjamin Drumm took gold and was the high scoring prone sub junior in the state. Matthew Drumm finished with silver. Zachary Morrell finished with a bronze. Devin Ridley finished fourth. Aidan Welch finished fifth and Ethan Collins finished rookie of the year.

Over the months of October 2014 through March 2015 some of the team members participated in 11 sectional shoots (Shoots at a different club) and
took awards at seven of these competitions consisting of trophies from 1st place to 5th place, silver medals, bronze medals and four 1st place team trophies including the State Championship in four position shooting.

A special thanks went to Connor Maurais for helping Coach Roy through out the year with the prone team. Connor is a left handed shooter in a predominately right handed sport. The help from Connor with the two lefties on the team was greatly appreciated.

Now that summer is here eight shooters are participating in the summer shooting program and five are preparing to head west once again for the National Championship Matches in Bristol Indiana.
