FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington (3-5-2) men’s soccer senior Ibrahim Achekh (Aboudeia, Chad/Lewiston) scored two goals in the Wednesday’s non-conference, 3-3 double overtime draw with the University of Maine at Machias (9-4-1).

Achekh gave the Beavers the lead in the fourth minute. Luke Sterling (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) played a ball that deflected off his cleat to Achekh, who rushed to his left and lined a grounder into the back of the net.

About midway through the first half, Achekh tallied his second score of the contest. Standing in front of his own bench, Tristan Price (Moultonborough, N.H./Moultonborough Academy) sent a high cross to Achekh in the box. After Achekh gained control, Machias goalie Robert Devone came of the net and Achekh chipped a shot over him.

The Clippers mounted a comeback to tie the game before halftime. Shortly after Achekh’s second goal, Jairo Ulises-Castillo headed his 12th goal of the season into the back of the net after Ridwan Hassan set the offense up on a corner kick.

Anthony Gonzalez tied the game in the 39th minute with a free kick. Ulises-Castillo passed through UMF’s defense to Gonzalez who used his head twice to knock in the goal, once to control it and then one more time for the score.

In the second half, Zach Sathasivam (Valley Stream, N.Y./ Kellenberg Memorial) gave UMF its second lead of the afternoon. Sathasivam lined a free kick from just beyond the box for his first goal of the year.

UMM tied the game again in the 63rd minute when Haidar Al-Freihy was successful on a penalty kick. UMF keeper Matt Wilson (Hampden, Maine/Hamden) dove to his left and Al-Freihy went the other direction for this 12th goal of the year.

Farmington had its chances in the extra periods by outshooting Machias, 5-1, but could not find the back of the net to end the game.

Wilson saved six shots in the battle for UMF and Devone stopped 10 shots for Machias.

UMF returns to conference play on Saturday to host Castleton University at 3 p.m.
