LEICESTER, Mass. – Junior Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine) matched her season-high of four goals as the University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team (0-3,0-1) attempt at a comeback came up short in a, 10-8, non-conference loss to Becker College on Sunday.

The Beavers fell behind, 3-0, quickly in the opening half but bounced right back with three unanswered goals to even the scoreboard. Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) scored UMF’s first goal after getting the dish from Allen. Six minutes later, Allen drew Farmington closer with an unassisted goal. UMF took advantage of a man-up opportunity when Allen scored the equalizer at the 18:27 mark.

Becker added two more goals in a four-minute span, but again UMF fought back to tie the game. Allen scored two free position goals in the next thirty seconds to get the Beavers back into the game.

The Hawks added one more goal with a minute and a half remaining to take a, 6-5, lead into the break.

Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) scored UMF’s sixth goal of the game five minutes into the final half. After Becker netted an insurance goal, Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) drew the Beavers closer to tying the game, 8-7.

UMF trailed 9-7 with 11:24 left in the game; Kadnar found the back of the net for the second time of the afternoon and brought Farmington within a goal of tying the game once more.

The Hawks scored their final goal just under the two minute mark for the final margin of victory.

Allen scored all four shots that she fired on goal. Jackson recorded a game-high 12 groundballs to add to her second half goal.

UMF keeper Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) stopped 11 shots on the afternoon. Becker’s Karena Prescott matched Smith with 11 saves of her own.

UMF hosts the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday. The Beavers will play the Huskies on the campus of Thomas College at 4 p.m.
