FARMINGTON – A pair of 13-point performances by Elizabeth Ferry and Kelly Pomerleau powered the University of Maine at Farmington (6-9, 5-3) in Saturday’s non-conference finale with a, 72-69, win over the University of Maine at Fort Kent.

The first half was very even as the game saw seven lead changes and four ties in the opening 20 minutes. UMF claimed a slim, 32-29, advantage at the break.

Coming out of the break, the Beavers extended their lead to as large as a 17-point deficit with 12:44 left in the contest. The Bengals proceeded to tie the game with a, 27-13, run in nearly 11 minutes to tie the score at, 64-64, and two minutes left on the clock.

After a Beavers timeout, UMF reclaimed the lead when Ferry scored a three-pointer the old-fashioned way. Ferry made the layup and then hit the foul shot to convert the and-one opportunity.

UMFK’s Samantha Carapellucci made a layup on the other end to cut the lead to one. Pomerleau nailed a pair of clutch free throws to push the lead back to three points.

Ericka Saucier sank the layup for her final two points of the contest as she scored a game-high 22 points and 15 rebounds. Lindsay Ranquist sealed the deal with two more free throws for the Beavers with six seconds left.

Ferry recorded her second straight double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Pomerleau’s 13 points came on 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc and a perfect 4-for-4 from the line.

UMaine-Farmington resumes conference play on Friday as the Beavers welcome Castleton to Dearborn Gymnasium at 5:30p.m.
