FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team (2-6) fell, 1-0, to Colby Wednesday afternoon at Prescott Field as Maddie Tight scored the decisive goal late in the first half.

Tight scored the difference maker in the 27th minute as she trapped the ball, made the Beaver defense shift direction, and booted a liner past UMF goalie Sam Hatch into the top right corner to give the Mules the early edge.

Alexandra Crocker looked answer on the UMF’s next possesion, but was denied by Colby keeper Emily Brook who earned her 17th career shutout today. Avalon Amador sent a cross through the Mules defense line and Crocker tried to even things up, but her shot was an easy save for Brook.

Colby controlled the tempo of the game in the second half, taking the first five shots in the half in less than ten minutes. Hatch and the Beaver defense were right there to answer with clutch saves and deflections.

The Beavers had one final chance in the 86th minute when Amador found herself 1-on-1 with the goalie. Jenna Silliboy chipped a passed from behind midfield which gave Amador room to break free. On her final dribble, she lead herself too far, giving Brook enough reaction time to come out of the goal and jump on the loose ball, stalling the Beaver scoring chance.

Sam Hatch had another busy day in goal as she deflected 15 shots. Emily Brook saved five shots for the Mules.

UMF returns to conference play on Saturday to host Johnson State for a 1 p.m. start.
