Beavers keep it close, but Castleton prevails

FARMINGTON – Elizabeth Ferry and Kennadi Grover powered the University of Maine at Farmington (6-10, 5-4) with 11 points apiece in Friday night’s, 67-57, loss to North Atlantic Conference rival Castleton at Dearborn Gymnasium.

UMF jumped out to an early, 5-0, lead but Castleton responded with a, 10-0, run to take the lead for the rest of the game. The Spartans claimed a 12-point lead with eight minutes left in the opening frame but the Beavers narrowed it down to a, 35-32, Spartan advantage at the break.

The Beavers kept the game close in the second half, but down the stretch UMF forced CSC to the line. The Spartans sank a perfect 6-for-6 in the final minute.

Ferry shot 5 for 8 from the field and grabbed 6 rebounds. Grover shot 5 for 10 and muscled two rebounds. Lindsay Ranquist also added 10 points for the Beavers. Jade Desroches scored a season-high 30 points on 9 for 18 shooting and 5-for-10 from long range to lead all scorers.

Farmington returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. with a visit from Green Mountain College.
