Beavers split weekend with convincing win over Green Mountain

FARMINGTON – Three Beavers scored in double figures as the University of Maine at Farmington (7-10, 6-4) shot 45.9 percent from the floor in a convincing, 77-23, conference win over Green Mountain College on Saturday afternoon at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers controlled the game from the opening tip. UMF shot one its best halves of the season by hitting 17 for 37 (45.9 percent) from the floor and leading, 42-12, heading into the locker room. Farmington caused 9 turnovers in the opening half and outscored Green Mountain, 11-0, on points off turnovers. UMF dominated the paint by scoring 16 points down low and held GMC to only 6 points.

After the break, the Beavers kept the same working strategy by creating points off turnovers and scoring down on the lower block. UMF outscored Green Mountain, 31-10, in the paint and, 21-2, off turnovers.

Kelly Pomerleau led the scoring attack with 14 points and hit 4 for 6 from long range. Meghan Smith and Courtney Alofs added 12 points apiece. Green Mountain’s Keelin Banks recorded her first double-double of the season with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

UMF travels to New Hampshire on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown with New England College.
