Daniel Webster spoils Senior Night for UMF

FARMINGTON – Nathan Chase rounded out the regular season finale with four goals in the University of Maine at Farmington men’s lacrosse, 17-9, non-conference loss to Daniel Webster College on Senior Day at Prescott Field.

Daniel Webster jumped out to a, 4-0, lead in the first eight minutes before Cameron McAllister (Yarmouth, Maine) was able to get the Beavers on the board.

After surrendering a pair to end the first quarter, UMF rebounded with two second quarter goals by Nathan Chase (Wells, Maine). The first score came to begin the second period with the second one coming midway through the quarter. Casey Wrigley (Oakland, Maine) charged into the Eagles’ defense and passed to his left to Chase, who made the easy score.

The Beavers showed signs of life in the third quarter with back-to-back goals by McAllister and David Walter Grainger III (Lexington, Mass.) to cut the Eagles lead in half, 10-5. With a man-down, Grainger picked up a ground ball and surged towards the goal, then the senior fired a line drive shot into the back of the net.

UMF opened the final period with three unanswered goals by McAllister, Wrigley, and Chase to bring the Beavers within three goals of tying the game.

Despite Chase adding one more for the Beavers, DWC charted four of the final five goals to end the game.

Joseph Maldonado (Fresno, Calif) saved 11 shots in the contest. Sean Zubrod (Augusta, Maine) and Connor Joy (Windham, Maine) led the Beavers with eight ground balls apiece.

UMaine-Farmington closed out the season with one for the record books. McAllister scored 14 goals this season which ranks the junior sixth for most goals in one season. Chase averaged 1.25 goals per game which ranks eighth for one season.

Zubrod rounded out his rookie campaign third on the single-season list with 69 ground balls and ninth with 1.46 caused turnovers per game. Senior Zack Rowland (Fryeburg, Maine) set a new mark with 126 faceoff wins and ranks ninth with 59 ground balls. Maldonado saved 174 shots on the year and only needed eight more to break the single-season record.
