Duo of Nichols and Forest-Bulley lead UMF in Friday night’s loss at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Uriah Forest-Bulley and Logan Nichols scored a team-high 14 points apiece as the University of Maine at Farmington (4-13, 3-8) suffered a, 71-64, conference loss at New England College on Friday night.

The first half saw four lead changes and three ties in the opening 20 minutes. New England College built a, 30-22, lead with three minutes left but Farmington reeled off a, 8-1, run to close out the half as the Pilgrims held a, 31-28, advantage at the break.

UMF took the lead on its opening possession in the second half thanks to Pet Sumner converted the and-one opportunity and Logan Nichols scored a layup on the Beavers’ next trip down the floor. UMF controlled the game until 9:13 remained when NEC tied the game, 43-43. In the next four minutes, the Pilgrims put the game out of reach with a, 16-5, run.

Despite UMF outscoring NEC in points in the paint (38-18), points off turnovers (19-17), and forced more turnovers (15 forced, 14 committed), the Pilgrims shot better from three-point land (32.1 percent) whereas the Beavers were held to 19 percent.

Uriah Forest-Bulley recorded a double-double with 14 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals. Logan Nichols shot 5 for 15 from the floor to match Forest-Bulley with 14 points. Nick Hilton added 12 points and seven boards for the Beavers. NEC’s Jonathan Barnes scored a game-high 25 points after hitting 4 for 5 from long range and 9 for 10 from the foul line.

UMF will spend Saturday in New Hampshire for conference play at Colby-Sawyer. Action tips-off at 1 p.m.
