fit-girls-posterWILTON – The Fit Girls after school program will be holding their second annual 5K run/walk on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at Wilson Lake. Last year more than 100 runners and walkers participated in the event which directly supported the program.

Under the direction of Deb Aseltine of Wilton, the mission of Fit Girls is to promote a healthy and active lifestyle that includes regular exercise for the body, the mind and heart. Aseltine said the “running and reading program builds self-esteem and confidence and helps girls connect with, and give back to, their community. The support we receive from this event helps to keep this a zero cost program for the girls in 4th and 5th grades who participate.”

Currently, the Fit Girls after school programs are held at Academy Hill and Cape Cod Hill Schools for 4th and 5th grade girls. There are plans to bring a program this coming spring to Cascade Brook School as well. The Fit Girls program, which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, is not an RSU 9 sponsored event, but Aseltine is extremely grateful to RSU 9 for the use of facilities.

Aseltine would like to acknowledge and thank Franklin Savings Bank and Western Mountain Financial Services for their support of this 5K event. The run/walk is open to the public. For additional information, please contact Race Director, Rose Hines at 778-5012.
