Fortin leads Beavers at NCAA New England Regionals

WESTFIELD, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington junior Jackson Fortin (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy was the Beavers’ top finisher at Saturday’s NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championship, hosted by Westfield State College.

Fortin placed 211th out of 351 runners in the field, posting a time of 29:05.59.

Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) was the next highest UMF finisher, placing 223rd in a time of 29:28.43. Jamie Williams (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) was 295th (31:46.52), and Abdikadir Hassan (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) was 300th (31:53.29). Andrew Carlson (Casco, Maine/Lake Region) was 308th (32.24.51), Kevin Lind (Augusta, Maine/Cony) finished 319th (32:41.78), and Nick Bourget (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) was 338th (34:37.36).

Overall, UMF was 42nd out of 50 teams in the NCAA regional meet with 1301 points.

Sykes paces Beavers at NCAA regional meet

WESTFIELD, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington senior Salena Sykes (Island Pond, Vt./North Country Union) paced the UMF women’s cross country team at Saturday’s NCAA Division III New England Regional Cross Country Championship at Westfield State College.

Sykes finished 234th in the event and was the Beavers’ top finisher, completing the 6000m course in a time of 26:12.49.

Rookie Farren Welzel (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was 249th in a time of 26:27.15, and was next among UMF finishers in the event. She finished just ahead of Cadyn Wilson (Hallowell, Maine/Hall-Dale), who was 253rd in a time of 26:30.32.

Rachel Huber (Bangor, Maine/Bangor) was 276th overall (27:28.78), Keeley Cronin (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) was 301st (28:43.58), and Amelia Tacheny (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) was 316th (29:25.70).

UMF finished 42nd out of 51 teams in the meet with 1272 points.
