Green Mountain’s shooting too much for UMF men

FARMINGTON – Four starters scored in double figures on Saturday afternoon as the University of Maine at Farmington (4-12, 3-7) fell, 89-75, to Green Mountain College at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Beavers trailed at the break, 41-36, despite shooting exactly the same (16-39) as Green Mountain from the floor. Green Mountain nailed six 3 pointers in the first half as UMF only sank two for the difference maker.

The contest was close until the Eagles built a 14-point advantage with nine and a half minutes left in the game. The Beavers managed to cut the lead to as little as 7 but the Eagles’ had the hot hand from outside. GMC shot better from the outside in the second half and made 7 field goals from beyond the arc. Green Mountain’s Cassius Belfron scored 23 of his 28 points in the second half.

Nick Hilton led the way for the Beavers with 22 points and seven rebounds. Uriah Forest-Bulley recorded a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Pet Sumner scored 14 points on 6 for 13 shooting and Logan Nichols added 10 points to the UMF offense. Belfron shot 7 for 12, hit four 3-pointers, and was 10 for 13 from the free-throw line.

UMF travels to New England College on Friday at 5:30 p.m. to resume conference play.
