BANGOR – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team used five different players to spree a scoring attack in Sunday afternoon’s, 16-9, North Atlantic Conference quarterfinal loss to Husson University.

UMF was able to halt Husson’s momentum late in the first half with a goal from Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine), her first of three on the afternoon.

Mara Balboni (Oakland, Maine) tallied a goal three minutes later to bring the Beavers within five, and then Carly Raymond (Topsham, Maine) closed out the first half attack for UMF with a goal at 3:13.

Coming out of the break, Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) notched the first of two second-half goals just over five minutes into the final period. Allen charted her second score of the game at 24:11 with a man-down goal and then found the back of the net for the final time at 17:42.

Sierra Gilley (Harpswell, Maine), Jackson, and Raymond combined to score the final three goals of the playoff contest, but Husson had built too large of a lead to mount a comeback.

Alaina Shorey (Lebanon, Maine) led the Beavers with five ground balls, won a draw control, and caused a turnover. Jackson added four ground balls and a team-best six draw controls to her pair of goals.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) stopped 18 shots in the game, which set a career-high for the first-year netkeeper.

UMF finished the season with an overall record of 5-8 and 4-4 in conference play. The season also marks the fifth straight season the Beavers earned a spot in the North Atlantic Conference playoffs.
