FARMINGTON – Registrations will begin Sept. 9 for children Grades 1 to 6 who would like to
participate in the 35th season of Recreation Department’s Instructional Soccer League this fall.

This year, the Registration Period will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 9; Wednesday, Sept. 10 and Thursday, Sept. 11. The Recreation Department Office will stay open until 6 p.m. on Thursday only for your convenience. Registrations will not be taken over the phone. Registration forms are available at the Recreation Department Office in the Farmington Community Center. For more information please call 778-3464.

Participants will be separated into two divisions structured by school grade to promote balanced competition and equal play opportunity. The divisional set up is as follows: Division I – Grades 1, 2 and 3 Division II – Grades 4, 5 and 6.

The focus of this league is to teach fundamentals, refine playing skills, improve fitness levels of the players and educate them in the rules and basic concepts of the sport of soccer. Having fun is the primary goal of the program so good sportsmanship is expected of all players and spectators; respect and support should be displayed for every player, coach and referee.

This fall the program will be under the guidance of Jaycee Jenckes. Jenckes graduated from Mt. Blue High School where she played on the girls Varsity soccer team and is attending University of Maine at Farmington for her Sophomore year. She volunteered as a coach in the department’s Instructional Soccer league and also served as director of last years’ “Prep” soccer program. Additionally, she is also a past recipient of the Jimmy Joe Allen Memorial Scholarship award, given to one or more of our outstanding volunteer coaches.

Serving as individual team coaches and game referees again this year will be members of the Mt. Blue Girls and Boys Varsity and Junior Varsity Soccer Teams as well as other volunteer students from our local high school.

In the interest of fairness, any child that participates in another fall soccer program will not be allowed to register for the Instructional Soccer League.

A standard registration fee of $25 is charged to all players. This fee enables the Rec. Dept. to purchase balls and other equipment for the program, trophies for all Division I and II champions and runners up and to furnish all volunteer coaches and referees a gift of appreciation on behalf of this program’s parents and participants. Additionally, $1 from each player’s registration is set aside for a scholarship established by the Farmington Recreation Department in memory of Jimmy Joe Allen, a tri-captain of the 1984 UMF Men’s Soccer team and a coach for two years in the Instructional Soccer League. The sum collected from this gesture will be awarded to a worthy and deserving student volunteer coach in this program.

There is a $5 Non-Resident Fee charged to participants who do not reside in the town of Farmington
(Farmington, West Farmington, Farmington Falls or Fairbanks) or whose parents do not pay property taxes to the Town of Farmington.

All players are expected to dress for games in the Farmington Recreation Department’s Youth Sports Team jersey. This numbered, reversible micro-mesh short sleeved shirt is ideal for soccer. In the warmer days of the program, a tee shirt may be worn under it. When the chilly temperatures come toward the end of the season, a turtleneck or sweatshirt underneath will keep players warm. If sized properly, one Youth Sports Team jersey should last a participant several seasons of both Instructional Soccer and our winter time Junior Pro Basketball Program and then may be easily re-sold or returned to the Rec. Dept. for other children to use. The purchase price for the Youth Sports Team jersey is $25.

Protective shin guards are optional and may be purchased at a cost of $5 per pair.

Checks for shirts and shin guards should be made payable to Game Day Athletic.

Please note: To assist the Recreation Department in tracking payments for any of the above fees,
it is our preference to accept only personal checks or money orders. Additionally, all transactions involving program costs must take place at the Farmington Community Center to ensure proper receipting. We appreciate your cooperation.

If insurance coverage is desired, it is the responsibility of the participant.

Please note: Any family requesting consideration for program fee subsidy must check the appropriate box on the program registration card.
