Jackson nets a pair for UMF in conference opener

CASTLETON, Vt. – University of Maine at Farmington (0-2, 0-1) sophomore midfielder Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine) scored a pair of goals as the Beavers were topped by Castleton State, 17-3 on Saturday afternoon. The duel between the North Atlantic Conference rivals at Spartan Stadium marked the conference opener for both squads.

The opening half saw 13 combined goals scored between the two teams. Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine) got UMF on the board with eleven minutes and change left in the first half. Kadnar netted her first goal of the season to close the gap, 9-1.

Jackson beat Castleton’s netkeeper Meghan Els for the unassisted goals just under the four-minute mark. Jackson recorded one more unassisted goal in the second half for her second goal of the game and the year.

Jaclyn Langevin (Bow, N.H.) scored the Beavers’ final goal of the afternoon with 14 minutes remaining in regulation.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) stopped six Spartan shots in the first half and Kayla Burgess (Springvale, Maine) recorded four saves in relief.

UMF travels from Vermont to Massachusetts to resume non-conference play. The Beavers play at Fisher College on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
