STRONG – On Saturday, 13 teens from Farmington and surrounding areas, convened at Strong Elementary School to become certified soccer referee assistants. The course, taught by Peter LaVassueur of SoccerMaine, qualifies the participants to act as referee assistants, commonly know as “linesmen”, at any United States Soccer Federation sanctioned match.

The course was organized by Western Maine United Soccer Club, a USSF affiliate based in Farmington. Currently WMU has eight teams ranging from under-9 to under-14 with 96 local boys and girls on the rosters. Players are from many different Franklin County towns, from Carrabassett Valley to Jay.

WMU games will begin on Sunday, Aug. 24.
