FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington senior Hannah Lust (Bangor, Maine) had four hits in her final day in a Beavers uniform on Sunday afternoon. Bates College took both games of a non-conference doubleheader at Prescott Field with a, 6-3, win in the first game and, 13-3, in the second game.
Behind 1-0 after one inning, the Beavers rallied for two runs in the second inning. Lust crushed an RBI triple that drove home fellow senior Jennifer Garrard (Wilmington, Mass.), and then Margaret Fogarty (Auburn, Maine) drove Lust in with an RBI groundout.
Bates scored a pair of runs in the third and the fourth innings and took a, 5-1, lead. UMF bounced back with a run in the bottom of the fourth but could not generate enough offense to force pressure on the Bobcats’ pitching staff.
Courtney Fowler (Greensboro, N.C.) finished the season with her best outing yet. The junior pitched a complete game with seven strikeouts and only allowed one earned run.
Bates came alive in the second game by scoring in every inning except for the fourth and fifth inning. Farmington managed to cut into the lead in the third inning with three runs. Kiana Thompson (Industry, Maine) ripped a two-run single to left field and then two batters later, Meryl Bond (Jefferson, Maine) lifted a sacrifice fly to center field.
Thompson wraps her rookie campaign with nine stolen bases which was tied for second in the North Atlantic Conference this season. Bond finished tied for ninth in the NAC with seven doubles and shared a piece of the lead in throwing out runners trying to steal. Emily Vitone (Westminster, Mass.) pitched eight complete games to lead the team.
Farmington concludes the season with a 5-23 record and 2-10 in conference play.
