MBMS 8th grade baseball defeats Spruce Mt

FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue 8th grade baseball team improved to 4-3 on the season with an impressive 13-3 victory over Spruce Mt.

Kile Heikkinen had four hits, the last of which plated Randy Barker to give Mt. Blue a 10-run lead in the bottom of the 5th,ending the game via the “mercy rule.”

Spruce Mountain had jumped to into the lead after two innings, highlighted by a 3-run home run by Caleb Talbot. Garrett Reynolds also had a triple and a single driving in three runs.

Other highlights included Jagger Bullen putting down a squeeze bunt to score Sam Stinson and Josh Meservey scoring a pair of runs. Stinson threw four strong innings on the mound, fanning eight and allowing just two hits and a single run. Isaac Cardona finished up the final inning, which included a diving catch by Stinson who had moved to centerfield.

The Cougars played well in the field, making just one error. Barker and Isac Osbourne played very well behind the plate filling in for the injured Noah Bell.

Other members of the team are Wyatt Viles, Colin Hutchins, Tyler McLaughlin, and Dakota Mumma.
