FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team played strong, but fell short 1-0 to Daniel Webster in the team’s home opener.

The first half did not see any goals, but saw the Eagles take control of the offensive pressure while UMF had to play some key defense. Daniel Webster fired four shots before UMF’s Ryan Fairbanks had the chance to put the Beavers on the scoreboard.

The Beavers played strong defense throughout the game but gave up a breakaway goal to Nathan Misidi, his second goal of the season. Richard Eaton gave Misidi a pass, who worked his way through the Beaver defense, chipped it past UMF goalkeeper Ronie Morales, and then sent the shot to the back of the net in the 76th minute.

The Eagles continued to control the tempo by taking three more shots in the next two minutes. The Beavers had a chance with a 1:36 left with a corner kick opportunity. Fairbanks took a shot, but the shot sailed over the crossbar eliminating the Beavers’ chance for a late game comeback.

Morales played well between the posts with seven saves, but will come away with the loss. Daniel Webster goalie Sean Hamilton gets the win and recorded a save.

UMF will host Saint Joseph’s on Tuesday, Sept, 23 for a 4 p.m. game.
