CASTLETON, Vt. – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team (1-6-1) played a strong first half, but gave up five goals in the second half in a 6-0 loss at Castleton for the Beavers’ second conference game of the season.

The Beavers defense played well in the opening minutes, but Castleton’s Dameon Young broke through the barrier and scored his first goal of the season off a rebound in the 11th minute. Owen Fellows sent the assist to Young, who booted the shot past UMF goalkeeper Ronie Morales.

UMF continued to play well with the Spartans and went into intermission trailing, 1-0. The scoreboard remained the same until Castleton’s Owen Fellows increased the lead in the 50th minute. Spencer Dandurand sent a cross through the Beaver defense, and Fellows found the back of the net for his first goal of the season.

UMF continued to have its back against the wall as the flood gates opened up in the 70th minute when the Beavers gave up four goals in an 18 minute span.

Alex McCormick made the score 3-0 in the 70th minute after an assist from Vinny Addonisio. Jake Tietgens one timed a shot past Morales as Bryce Kaler sent a pass through the Beaver defense.

Castleton continued to have things go its way as Seth Wilmott scored his first goal of the season on a corner kick. Wilmott’s shot was sent to the near post and was deflected into the goal.

Vinny Addonisio scored his second goal of the season with 1:55 left in the game. Addonisio came off the wing and his shot snuck past relief goalie Matt Wilson.

Ronie Morales saved 11 shots in 81 minutes of play and Matt Wilson recorded a save in nearly nine minutes of relief. Castleton keeper Dan Palker saved the two shots on goal to pick up the win.
