Mt. Blue 5th/6th Girls Travel Basketball team wins championship

FARMINGTON – The Mt. Blue 5th/6th Girls Travel Basketball team completed their season on Sunday by winning the Western Maine Youth Basketball League “A” bracket championship. Their season record stands at 12 wins and 0 losses.

In the first game of the playoffs, they played to a 41-29 win over Oxford Hills. Mt. Blue’s Hannah Wilbur led all scorers with 23 points and Caitlin Burke added 8 points. Sierra Carson wasthe high scorer for Oxford Hills with 13 points and teammate Taylor Truman had 6 points.

The championship game had No.1 Mt. Blue playing No.2 River Valley and with the teams tied 21-21 at halftime, it was anyone’s game. Mt. Blue pulled away in the fourth quarter to win the game 33-27. Hannah Wilbur put 11 points on the board for Mt. Blue with Lexi Belanger and Caitlin Burke each adding 7. River Valley’s high scorers were Katie Blouin with 7 points and Sarah Perkins with 6 points.

The coaches and players would like to thank their families for the countless hours that they spent at the gym and on the road this season.

  1. Way to go. Congratulations on the championship.. Great team and great coaches, can’t wait to see when they start playing in high school.
