Neal wins UMF Carnival at Black Mountain

RUMFORD – University of Maine at Farmington nordic skier Bryce Neal (New Gloucester, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) won Saturday’s United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Katadhim five-kilometer race at the UMF Carnival, hosted at Black Mountain.

Neal finished the race at 20:23 and topped the competition by 13 seconds. Fellow UMF racer Calen Mendall (Manchester, Maine/Home School) came in second place behind Neal with a time of 20:36. Joshua Richards (Damariscotta, Maine/Lincoln Academy) placed fifth for the Beavers after crossing the line at 29:08 and Salvatore Azzaretti (Newcastle, Maine/Lincoln) followed in sixth place at 39:22.

In the five-kilometer women’s classic, Alisha Labbe (Turner, Maine/Leavitt) led UMF with a third place finish after closing out the race with a time of 25:27. Megan Morrison (Dixfield, Maine/Dirigo) trailed Labbe in fourth place at 29:53. Ellie Pinto (Essex, Vt./Essex) placed fifth for the Beavers with a time of 33:30.

In the six and half-kilometer sit ski race, Christina Kouros (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) won the race with a time 36:19.

The UMF alpine team returns to the slopes on Saturday at Titcomb Mountain while the snowboard team competes at Sunday River.
