Racers run along Wilson Lake.

WILTON – The Race Against the Cold was held Sunday, raising $1,600 for Western Maine Community Action to weatherize houses.

Nate Paling came up with the idea after working as a house inspector, after realizing how many local homes are poorly insulated, or uninsulated altogether. The run took participants across the frozen Wilson Lake, on trails groomed by the local snowmobile club.

Paling hopes the race will become an annual event for the area, with the possibility of adding skis or fat bikes to the race.
