Rec Department offering pre-season basketball camp

FARMINGTON – The local recreation department is now taking registrations for any Farmington area students in grades 2 through 6 who want to take part in our Pre-Season Basketball Camp. The deadline for registering is 5 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30.

Participants will meet Saturday mornings at either 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. in the Bjorn at the Community Center, beginning Saturday, Nov. 1 and continuing until Saturday, Nov. 22. Players will learn and practice basic skills, as well as gain an understanding of the rules associated with the game. Through a variety of individual fundamental drills, students will be taught the proper techniques for shooting, dribbling, passing and defense. As the players progress, they will be taught more challenging team oriented drills.

Session 1: 2nd and 3rd Graders 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. Session 2: 4th, 5th and 6th Graders 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

This year’s program director will be Jaycee Jenckes. She graduated from Mount Blue High School where she played one year on the JV team and three years on varsity, two of which she was Captain. Jenckes started playing basketball in Wilton in 1st grade, has worked with children at summer basketball camps and last year was the Assistant Director of our Jr. Pro Basketball Program as well as the “Prep” Basketball Program. Jaycee has been honored by receiving an award for being an outstanding volunteer coach and is now the Coach of the Mount Blue Middle School Girls 7th grade team.

The standard Registration Fee is $ 15. This should be paid by check to Jaycee Jenckes. There is a $5 Non-Resident Fee charged to participants who do not reside in the town of Farmington (Farmington, West Farmington, Farmington Falls or Fairbanks) or whose parents do not pay property taxes to the Town of Farmington.

Insurance coverage for players, if desired, is the responsibility of the participant. For more information about our Basketball Camp please contact the Recreation Department office located in the Farmington Community Center at 778-3464. Registrations will not be taken over the phone.

Registration forms can be returned to the Recreation Department Office in the Farmington Community Center through Friday, Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is not a Mt. Blue RSD sponsored activity, but its information is being distributed through the public schools as a community service. All costs associated with this flyer are paid for by the Farmington Recreation Department.
