FARMINGTON – Edward Little’s Sarah Hammond pitched a complete game 3 hitter and striking out 10 Mt. Blue batters on the way to a hard fought 2 to 0 victory over Mt. Blue in KVAC softball action Tuesday afternoon.

Hammond out dueled Cougar starting pitcher Caitlin Kane who gave up 5 hits through 5 innings and Taylor Burke pitched the 6th and 7th for the Cougars. Kane was the hard luck loser as Edward Little scored on a Molly Murray single in the 2nd inning following an outfield error. The Red Eddies scored again in the 4th inning on an infield throwing error.

Hammond was the story on the day as she kept the Mt. Blue bats at bay most of the briskly played game that took only one hour and 13 minutes. The Cougars threatened in the 4th on a Rachelle Bator leadoff single and advanced to 2nd as the ball got by the outfielder. Bator moved up to third on an infield groundout by Burke but then was cut down between third and home in a run down. Edward Little improved to 10-4 on the season and Mt. Blue dropped to 5-9 and are fighting for one of the final Eastern Class A playoff spots.
