CARRABASSETT VALLEY – Pond Skimming in the east has become a spring time tradition for resorts big and small. It stands to reason that Sugarloaf, the King of Spring, would host the East Coast Pond Skimming Championships.

Following a successful debut last spring, Sugarloaf will host the second annual East Coast Pond Skimming Championships on April 19.

Skiers and riders will test their buoyancy on a homemade “pond” located on the Landing, just above the beach and base area. Whoever makes it across the pond with the most style will take home the crown as the East Coast’s best pond skimmer.

A panel of celebrity judges will award points based on best costume, most style, and of course, making it all the way across the pond without sinking.

Registration is free and will take place on the day of the event starting at 11 a.m. in the Maple Room of the Base Lodge, and will be first-come-first-serve. Each skier will get one attempt to make it across the pond.

Pond skimming will start at 1pm sharp and winners will be announced after all skimmers have finished their runs.
