UMaine tops UMF ski team by 0.3 seconds at Sugarloaf

CARRABASSETT VALLEY – The University of Maine at Farmington Ski Team finished second at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association competition behind the University of Maine at Sugarloaf on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Rose topped the competition by nearly six seconds in the Men’s Giant Slalom. Rose finished with an overall time of 1:42:29. Maine’s Ian Wilson (1:48:25), Jeremy Leavitt (1:49:10), and Matthew Bearurgard (1:50:25) raced behind Rose in second, third, and fourth to win the overall men’s team competition. Alex Stevens (1:50:43) and Samuel Ricker (1:55:23) followed the Maine triple threat the round out the top racers for UMF. The Black Bears beat the Beavers by 0.3 seconds for the win.

In the Women’s Giant Slalom, Lindsey Jacques finished in second place, behind Maine’s Marissa Roberts by four seconds. Roberts won the event with a total time of 1:54:77 and Jacques followed with a time of 1:58:23.

UMF travels to Lost Valley in Auburn, Maine on Saturday, Jan. 31.
