WEST FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington alpine skiers Jedidiah Stevens (Coplin Plantation, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and Lindsey Jacques (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) placed in the top five on Saturday afternoon at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Reynolds Division alpine slalom race at Titcomb Mountain.
Jacques had a strong afternoon as the senior ranked second overall in the women’s race. Jacques crossed the line at 1:18.38 and only one and a half seconds behind the leader, Bates’ Elly Bengtsson. Paige Butterfield (Jay, Maine/Spruce Mountain) improved her time by four seconds after her first initial run of the day. In the first trial, the freshman was timed at 52.17 and then 48.68 in the final run for a total time of 1:40.85 and a 17th place finish.
Stevens finished in fifth place with a time of 1:18.52. Jeremy Demers (Boscawen, N.H./Bishop Grady) was close to ranking in the top ten with an 11th place finish after posting an overall time of 1:25.60. Demers was only three-quarters of a second from the top ten. Mitchell Golas (Brookline, N.H./Bishop Guertin) trailed Demers with a combined time of 1:28.71 for 13th place. Mitchell’s brother, Marshall, followed in 17th at 1:30.88. Jacob Violette(Norridgewock, Maine/Skowhegan) rounded out UMF’s scoring two seconds later (1:32.98) in 18th place.
The UMF alpine team will race again in the USCSA Regional Qualifying Championship on Saturday, Feb. 27 at Mt. Abram.
