WATERVILLE – The UMaine-Farmington field hockey dropped was shutout for the second time in three games Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup against Colby.

The Beavers could not generate any offense in today’s game as the Mules outshot UMF 34-3.

Colby scored three goals in the opening 8:38 of the game, including a two from Megan Fortier who scored a hat trick in today’s game.

On a play started on a penalty corner, Fortier scored her first of the game from Hannah Hearn (Auburn, Maine) just 2:09 into the contest.

Nearly two minutes later, the Mules increased the margin again on a crowded play in front of the goal. Misha Strage (Westport, Conn.) got the goal off an assist from Fortier.

Caitlin Guiney (Concord, Mass.) came into the game and scored less than 30 seconds later when she gave the Mules a 3-0 margin at 8:38.

Fortier scored her 29th career goal with 14:31 to play when she stroked a backhand shot into the cage from about 12 yards out.

The Mules went without a goal for about 45 minutes until McKayla Blanch (Tewksbury, Mass.) scored the final goal of the game with just 3:04 remaining in the game. Fortier tried to score her fourth goal of the game, but was blocked by UMF and Blanch put the rebound between the pipes.

Patty Smith made seven saves in the first half for the Beavers. Alyssa Arsenault allowed just one goal and saved 10 shots in her second half relief appearance. Colby All-American Sarah Evans (Cohasset, Mass.) made two saves for her third shutout of the season.

UMaine-Farmington (3-2) will travel to Bowdoin next Thursday, Sept. 25 for their next game. Game time is set for 6:00pm.
