UMF Field Hockey beats Rivier, 5-0

NASHUA, N.H. – The University of Maine at Farmington (5-3) field hockey team shutout its second opponent of the year and have won three of the past five games on Saturday as the Beavers silenced Rivier, 5-0.

UMF took an early 1-0 advantage just two minutes into the contest when Chelsea Morley was able to walk in the circle and rifle a shot into the back of the net.

Carly Raymond got in the mix in the 10th minute when she sent scored her team leading seventh goal of the season after getting a dish from Meghan Plant. Raymond looked to get her second goal of the game in the 24th minute, but Rivier goalie Makenzie Flagg was there for the save but could not trap the shot. Rebecca Young was there for the rebound and sent the shot into the back of the cage.

The score remained 3-0 until Mara Balboni increased the UMF lead in the 40th minute after Sarita Crandall came delivered the assist. Jenessa Talrico scored the final goal of the game in the 63rd minute and her third goal of her rookie campaign.

Patty Smith saved a shot in the first half and Alyssa Arsenault stopped a pair of Rivier shots in the second half. Rivier goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg recorded 11 saves on the afternoon.

UMF returns home on Saturday, Oct. 4, as the Beavers host Colby-Sawyer at noon for the second conference game of the season.
