FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington golf team opens a new season with the second longest tenured coach in the conference and six returning players from a year ago.

After finishing fifth in the 2014 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship last year, UMF was voted fifth in the 2015 NAC golf preseason poll this year as the team stands to move up in the standings with a nucleus of returning players. UMF head coach Bob Timmins enters his thirteenth season at the helm of the Beavers, the longest tenured head golf coach in the NAC after Salem State’s Steve Campbell.

UMaine-Farmington will rely on the leadership of Aaron Rivard (Acton, Maine/Sanford), who stands as the lone senior on the team.

UMF also has two returning juniors on the team — Derek Guerrette (Oakland, Maine/Messalonskee) and Samuel Good (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy).

The returning sophomores are – Gavin Brickley (Plymouth, N.H./Plymouth Regional); Daniel Capone (Nangatuck, Conn./Nangatuck); and Vaughn Keenhold (Braintree, Vt./Randolph Union).

First-year golfers include – Eric Aguair (Thorton, N.H./Plymouth Regional); Trevor Hisler (Skowhegan, Maine/Skowhegan); Travis Kupec (Windsor Locks, Conn./Windsor Locks); and Michael Richard (Turner, Maine/St. Dominic Academy).

The schedule will start with the UMF Invitational on Thursday, September 3 at the Waterville Country Club. Throughout the season, the Beavers will compete in the Bowdoin Invitational, Maine Collegiate Championship, Thomas Invitational, Husson Invitational, Maine Maritime Invitational, and the Southern Maine Cup before heading to Green Mountain State to compete in the NAC Championship, hosted at the Rutland (Vt.) Country Club.
