FARMINGTON – Director of Athletics, Fitness, and Recreation Julie Davis is pleased to announce the hiring of four assistant coaches to the University of Maine at Farmington coaching staff.
David Yates joins the UMF men’s soccer coaching staff after assuming successful coaching positions with various college summer camps. He served as a camp assistant at Gettysburg College in July 2015 and the Lynchburg City School District in June 2015. The sports management major assisted Coach Tommy DiNuzzo in June with UMF’s summer camp, which saw one of its highest attendance rates ever.
As a head coach, Yates guided the junior varsity team at EC Glass High School in Lynchburg. Prior to EC Glass, he served at the helm of Central Virginia United, a U8 level team and then coached the academy program a year later.
In college, Yates worked at the Lynchburg College Showcase during his four years as a camp assistant and became a coach in his final two years at the event. Prior to the Showcase, Yates helped with the Fauquier County Soccer Club and coached a variety of age groups.
Originally from Warrenton, Virginia, Yates received his Bachelor of Arts degree in the summer of 2015 from Lynchburg.
Erica Fredrick-Rock joins the softball coaching staff after graduating from the University of Maine at Augusta in May 2015.
As a women’s basketball player at UMA, Fredrick-Rock played in 20 games as a senior with three starts. The forward grabbed 45 total rebounds off the glass in her final year in a Moose uniform.
Fredrick-Rock graduated with a degree in biology. She had a very impressive resume at UMA, including being honored as a Rising Scholar, president of the HPSA/Honors Program, was a member of the Honors Program, a KLI Leadership recipient, a Maine NEW Leadership scholarship recipient, and spent a week in Haiti on a Global Health Service Mission.
For five years, Fredrick-Rock also worked as a volunteer fundraising liaison at the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine while working at Bank of America full-time. She also served in the United States Air Force as a Cryptologic Linguist for two years.
In high school, Fredrick-Rock was a three-sport athlete playing soccer, basketball, and track & field.
Originally from Augusta, Fredrick-Rock will work primarily with the infielders under head coach Paul Rodrigue.
Ashley Peaslee joins the UMF softball program after spending the past two seasons at Plymouth State College as a women’s basketball assistant coach. A 2013 graduate of the University of Maine at Augusta, Peaslee was a three-sport athlete competing in soccer, basketball, and bowling, serving as captain of all three sports for four years. Peaslee was the starting sweeper all four years for soccer, being named All-Conference three years in a row and was a member of the National Championship All-Tournament team her freshman year.
Peaslee was the starting point guard all four years for the UMA Lady Moose basketball team, becoming the first female player at UMA to score 1,000 career points. In her senior year, Peaslee helped lead the Moose to their first-ever regular season championship, and she led the nation in steals three times. She was also a member of the 2013 YSCC bowling conference championship team finishing fourth overall.
Peaslee will work with the outfielders under Coach Rodrigue.
Ryan Wagner returns to the University of Maine at Farmington as a men’s and women’s cross country and track and field assistant coach.
Wagner spent the previous three seasons as the head coach of the cross country team at Georgia’s Kennesaw State. Wagner joined the Owls in 2011 and served one season as an assistant after coaching cross country at UMF and track and field at Colby College in Maine.
Wagner served as the head men’s and women’s cross country coach at UMF for three seasons. During his tenure, the women’s team earned three consecutive North Atlantic Conference championships from 2008-2010 and he was named NAC Coach of the Year in 2009. While spending the 2011 season at Colby, Wagner worked as an assistant track and field coach, focusing on sprints, hurdles and horizontal jumps.
Wagner received his bachelor’s degree in health and exercise science with a minor in physical education from Syracuse University in 2000, where he competed in track and field and cross country for the Orangemen. He earned his master’s degree in health & physical education, with a concentration in sport management, from East Stroudsburg University in 2002.
Wagner also works as a University police officer for the University of Maine at Farmington.
