UMF holds on for big win over NEC

FARMINGTON – The University of Maine at Farmington women’s lacrosse team (5-6, 4-3) held off a late surge by New England College for the, 13-10, North Atlantic Conference win on Thursday afternoon at Prescott Field.

As Thursday marked the official home opener for the Beavers, the team used home field advantage and jumped out to an early, 3-0, after a goal by Carly

Raymond (Topsham, Maine) and a pair by Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, Maine).

After surrendering a goal with a one-man advantage, Farmington closed out the half on a, 6-2, run with two goals coming from Rhi Jackson (Saco, Maine), three from Ayla Allen (Rumford, Maine), and one more from Kadnar.

With Allen tacking on her fourth goal at the 26:25 mark in the second half, the Pilgrims slowly started to cut into the Beavers, 10-3, lead. Jacquelyn Lane scored back-to-back man-down goals for NEC in a thirty-four second span. Allen broke the streak with one more, but Lane answered back with an unassisted goal at with eighteen minutes left on the clock.

UMF notched two more scores as Raymond added her second goal of the game and Allen tallied her sixth of the contest to seal the victory for the Beavers.

Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine) stopped five shots on the afternoon and Allen led the Beavers with seven ground balls.

The Beavers clinched the fifth seed in the North Atlantic Conference playoff which starts on Sunday, April 26th. Despite having on more game at Colby-

Sawyer, UMF owns the tie breaker over New England College cannot make up any ground on Husson as the Eagles own the tie breaker.

Prior to the game, Allen was honored as the junior became the first player in program history to score 100 career goals.

UMaine-Farmington closes out the regular season on Saturday at Colby-Sawyer.
