UMF Women’s Track and Field places third at NAC championship
NEW LONDON, N.H. – University of women’s track and field placed third in the team standings at the North Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College, in the team’s inaugural season as a varsity program.
Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) had a dominating afternoon for the Beavers. The junior placed second in the 400m hurdles by crossing the line at 1:12.74. Humphrey continued with a second place finish in the high jump (1.53m) and third in the triple jump (9.70m). She earned ranked fifth in the discus throw by tossing her discus 30.87m. Humphrey rounded out her first conference championship with a sixth place finish in the long jump at 4.41m.
Morgan Crocker (Boothbay, Maine/Boothbay Region) had similar results as Humphrey. Crocker came in fourth place in the 100m hurdles (2:29.97) and followed Humphrey in fourth place (1:16.92) in the 400m hurdles event.
Laura Pulito (Brownfield, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) had a solid run in the 5,000m run in third place (20:29.38) and fourth place in the 800m run (2:29.97).
Molly Menice (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) also had a fourth place finish (29.34m) for the Beavers in the javelin throw. Victoria Marquis came in sixth place in the 100m dash (14.54) and Kaitlyn Virgin (Mexico, Maine/Mountain Valley) trailed Humphrey in seventh place (4.41m) in the long jump.
In the 4×100 relay, UMF had a combined score of 54.94 for a third place finish.
The Beavers earned a total of 76 points on the team leaderboard and nearly pulled off a second place finish, trailing Husson University by only two points. Colby-Sawyer won the crown with a total of 216 points.
UMF Men’s Track and Field takes third at NAC Championship
NEW LONDON, N.H. – University of men’s track and field placed third in the team standings at the North Atlantic Conference Championship, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College, in the team’s inaugural season as a varsity program.
Shane Hathaway (Pittsfield, Maine/MCI) had a dominating performance in his first conference championship as a varsity athlete. Hathaway won the 400m hurdles (1:00) and placed third in the 110m hurdle (17.08), high jump (1.74m), and long jump (6.13m) events. The sophomore rounded out his afternoon with a seventh place finish in the javelin throw at 38.58m.
Jake Roberts (South China, Maine/Erskine Academy) had a solid afternoon as well by placing second in the 110m hurdles (16.66). Roberts followed Hathaway in the long jump in fourth place (6.05) and in the 400m hurdle event in fifth place (1:05.06).
Alan Young (Poland, Maine/Poland) was stellar in the high jump event with a second place finish (1.78m). UMF had five athletes finish in the top ten in the long jump event. Young placed fifth (6.05m) behind Hathaway and Roberts followed by Jesse Enos (Rome, Maine/Messalonskee) in seventh place (5.67m) and Zack Lavoie (Brunswick, Maine/Bunswick) in eighth place (5.61m). Lavoie also placed third in the triple jump (12.40m).
Josh Wynne (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) had solid runs in the 400m dash (53:02) and the 800m run in fifth place (2:07.14). David Doering (Portland, Maine/Deering) also claimed top ten finishes with a fifth place finish (4:26.16) in the 1500m run and sixth place (2:07.47) in the 800m run.
UMF had a pair of athletes come in third place with Robert Hollis (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) in the 5000m run (16:31.18) and Austin Gatcomb (Wrentham, Mass./King Philip) in the 3000m steeplechase events (10:53.89).
The Beavers earned a total of 96 points on the team leaderboard to earn a third place finish. Colby-Sawyer won the event with 227 points followed by Castleton University with 126 points.
UMF men and women will complete in the NCAA Regional Championship at Springfield College next weekend.
