UMF men’s soccer seeks first win of season following loss

WATERVILLE – The University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team is still searching for their first win of the season as the Beavers fell 3-0 to Colby in a rare night game Wednesday at at Harold Alfond Stadium.

UMF could not generate any offense as the Beavers lost the shots battle, 13-1, and the corner kick battle, 4-1.

Freshman Chandler Smith scored at 32:54 and teammate Gray Louis (Wellesley, Mass.) added a second goal before halftime at 25:23.

The Mules got an insurance goal from Yinka Onayemi (Crete, Ill.) with 12:56 left in the second half.

Cody Funkhouser (Hopewell, N.J.) earned his third win of the season by playing 80 minutes in net for Colby. John Pappas (West Simsbury, Conn.) saw his first collegiate action in goal over the final 10 minutes. Ronie Morales saved six shots on the evening for the Beavers.

UMaine-Farmington (0-3-1) will host Daniel Webster on Saturday, September 20th for the Beavers home opener.
