BOSTON, Mass. – After getting outshot 34-9, the University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer team was able to walk away with a 1-1, double overtime tie against Emerson Saturday afternoon.

Emerson dominated the first half as the Lions booted 10 shots on goal. UMF’s keeper Ronie Morales was busy the entire half as he deflected nine of those 10 shots. A foul proved costly for the Beavers though as Ryan Carino posted a ball that Adam Halliday deflected with a header to Matt Zani who put it away into the left side of the net for the 1-0 lead at the half.

Emerson continued their dominance after intermission, but UMF played scrappy as they tied it up with 25 minutes left in the game after a foul set up a free kick for Yusuf Yama. Yama converted as he hooked it into the bottom right corner. Ronie Morales continued to keep the Beavers in the game as the sophomore from Houston, TX had seven more saves in the half as the Lions blasted 12 more shots his way.

The first OT saw the rain start falling harder as the extra period only saw two shots taken, both by Emerson.

In the final period, the Lions had their chances to end the game, putting up four more shots compared to UMF’s zero. Emerson’s Adam Halliday was given a golden opportunity with a penalty kick. His shot ended up hitting the post and eight minutes later, the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
Ronie Morales recorded 17 saves in the four period game and his record on the year improves to 0-1-1.

UMF (0-1-1) will stay in Boston and play Wentworth Institute of Technology Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m.
