FARMINGTON – University of Maine at Farmington has announced that Amy Jones, a UMF graduate and standout softball player, has been named interim head coach of the softball team.

Jones became the first player in program history to earn North Atlantic Conference First Team or Second Team honors all 4 years of her career. Jones was a First Team All-Conference as a senior and earned Second Team All-NAC honors in each of her first three seasons.

In tournament play, Jones made the All-Tournament team in her freshman and senior seasons.

Jones’ career on the UMF softball field registered several UMF records. She holds the all-time career record for at-bats with 378 and second on the list with 116 career starts and 97 runs scored. Jones’ 15 home runs and 78 runs batted are third on the list. A career .349 hitter, Jones ranks in the top 10 in doubles (30), total bases (213), and slugging percentage (.563).

A graduate of Cony High School, Jones was selected as a First Team All-State second baseman. In her junior year, she was named Second Team All-Conference and First Team All-Conference as a senior.

Jones graduated from UMF in 2014 with a degree in Community Health Education and minored in coaching. Jones also excelled in academics making the Dean’s list on multiple occasions. She was a leader in the program serving as captain for the softball team and contributed to the women’s soccer program her senior year for the Beavers.

“We are fortunate to have Amy step into this role on short notice,” said Director of Athletics, Fitness, and Recreation Julie Davis. “We talk about teaching transferable skills in sport, and Amy is embodying several of these skill with the team at this juncture. She has figuratively stepped up to the plate and is applying laser focus to the task at hand which is leading this team, making it a great experience and continuing to build on our strong tradition of success in this program.”
