UMF records fourth shutout of the season with 6-0 win at NEC

HENNIKER, N.H. – Five different Beaver players scored as the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team (7-4) shutout New England College, 6-0, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Saturday night.

UMF opened the scoring campaign just seven minutes into the game as Delainey Kein would put in a feed from Rebecca Young into the cage for her fourth goal of the season.

The Beavers would get two more opening half goals. The first one came at the 13 minute mark as Sarita Crandall received a pass through the middle from Chelsea Morley and gave UMF the 2-0 advantage. Carly Raymond added another goal to her already amazing rookie campaign when she added her team-leading ninth goal of the season at 31:18.

The Beavers would record three additional second half goals. Crandall notched her second of the game in the 38th minute and Mara Balboni scored her sixth goal of the season after Morley dished her second assist of the game in the 44th minute. Emily Lewia notched the final goal of the game in the 68th minute for her first goal of the season.

Picking up the win in net for UMF was Patty Smith, who recorded one save on the evening. In goal for NEC was Karlie Bove who notched 26 saves for the Pilgrims.

The Beavers outshot the Pilgrims 43-1 and won the penalty corners battle, 11-1. Tonight’s shutout was the fourth shutout on the season for UMF and the sixth time the team has scored at least five goals in a game.

UMF will host Saint Joseph’s College on Tuesday at Prescott Field for the final home game and non-conference game of the season. Game time is set for 3:15 p.m.
