FARMINGTON – On Saturday the University of Maine at Farmington men’s rugby team launched its fall season on Prescott Field with an 84-0 win over a hard-working but far less experienced team from Maine Maritime Academy. The visitors tackled gamely for all 80 minutes, but the speed and experience of the UMF men allowed them to run in 14 tries, many from long range.
In the forwards, the UMF men were led Mena Boyah, Zack Nadeau and new-comer Colin Richards, and in the backs, scrumhalf Nick Ervin and center Frank Makuch spearheaded an attack that also featured impressive tries by debutantes Matt Scremin and Bradley Jackson.
Next Saturday the UMF men travel to UNE and the UMF women’s rugby team will kick off their campaign at Johnson State University in Vermont. Both teams will return home for a Prescott Field double header on Saturday, Sept. 27.
