STANDISH – Sophomore Kennadi Grover was tied with game-high 12 points and five rebounds in University of Maine at Farmington’s (0-4,0-0), 69-37, loss to unbeaten Saint Joseph’s College on Monday evening.

The Monks started the game firing on all cylinders with a 21-8 run in the first 10 minutes of the first half. The Beavers tried to get back in the game with three quick points, but Saint Joseph’s offense was just too much in the first half, finishing the half with a 24-6 run and held a 45-17 edge at half time.

Saint Joe’s shot well from long range (8-for-14) and the foul line (11-12). The Monks’ defense held the Beavers to 6 of 22 shooting from the field and 5 for 10 from the line.

However, UMF would not go away quietly. The Beavers began to feel the hot hand while the Monks started to cool off. The duo of Elizabeth Ferry (Winslow, Maine) and Grover (Cushing, Maine) slimmed the SJC lead to 20 with 9:19 left in the game.

The Beavers defense held strong for the remainder of the game, holding the Monks to only 15 points but the UMF offense could not generate enough buckets to overtake SJC.

UMF finished the game 14 of 48 from the field and 9-17 from the line. Saint Joe’s shot 20 of 67 and hit 11 of 25 from deep in the game.

Grover scored 10 of her 12 points in the second half and finished the game Ferry complimented Grover’s attack with 10 points and seven rebounds with four of the seven boards being offensive rebounds. Saint Joe’s Morgan Cahill and Hayley Quirion matched Grover with 12 points.
